Our Logo shows the Egyptian God “Thoth” (we prefer the correct German spelling of “Thot”) as an ibis. Thoth is known in Egyptian mythology as the moon god, the god of magic, science, writing, wisdom and the calendar. Thoth was the “God of the West“ in the Pyramid Texts.

Thoth represented the world’s uniform order and the spirit of legality and order. Thoth was the representative of the spirit and the patron god of all earthly laws. The Egyptians credited Thoth as the author of all works of science, religion, philosophy, and magic. Thoth was at the same time the god of intelligence, the arranger of the liturgical rites, the teacher of the arts and sciences, the inventor of language and writing and the patron of libraries. In Greek mythology, Thoth was identified with Hermes, and later merged with him to Hermes Trismegistus. The Greeks further declared Thoth to be the inventor of astronomy, astrology, the science of numbers, mathematics, geometry, land surveying, medicine, botany, theology, civilized government, the alphabet, reading, writing, oratory and the true author of every work of every branch of knowledge, human and divine.

“Thoth” (or “Thot”) is thereby to be taken seriously.
